How to choose your deck?

Everyone has something to say. Everyone has a different advice. Let me get this straight first, do your research and choose what resonates with you.

Tarot reading and tarot readers can be found in plenty now. What is it that would set you apart from the rest? That is a decision for you to make. Will it be your reading style? Will it be your relationship building?

The first step is to choose the right deck. Before you start reading professionally choose a deck that resonates with you.

Research the history of Tarot

Knowing your basics is the key to master it. Learn the history of tarot, how it all began.

Types of decks

There are a lot of decks available. Know the decks and narrow down the decks you feel connected to.

  • As a beginner, I would recommend the Rider Waite Deck. This deck is easy to interpret and widely available.

  • You can also choose from the decks that have bold and detailed descriptions.

  • My first card when I was sixteen was gifted to me and I found it difficult to interpret for a long time as the images were not in detail. But now as a seasoned reader my first deck is my favourite and personal one.

Tarot vs Oracle

A lot of people tend to get confused with tarot and oracle. A tarot card usually has 78cards and a pattern to the entire deck.

Oracle cards are made as per the visions and ideas of the creator. It can contain any number of cards. Oracle cards are perfect for beginners as they are easier to interpret. Unlike tarot, the oracles have no set rule. The sky is limit when interpreting these cards. There is a wide variety of Oracle cards in the market. Choose one that you love.

Cleansing your deck

Now that you have bought your cards, it is time for cleansing them before you transfer your energies to it.

  • You can cleanse using smoke, crystals or sleep with your cards. Let the cards absorb your energies for a few days.

  • Shuffle them, play with them, get the hang of it before you start your next step.

Learning the cards

Your cards are in tune with your vibrations. It is time to start working with them.

  • Do not try learning the cards at a time.

  • Take one card at a time.

  • Understand how the cards are divided. (Major Arcana, Minor Arcana, etc)

  • Before you open the handbook get an idea of how the card feels to you. Connect with each card individually.

  • I keep a tarot journal to interpret my thoughts even after decades of reading the tarot. There is always something new that comes up.

A few tips

You are familiar with your cards? If you would like to do it professionally then you need to work out what methods of reading you would like to do.

Each reader is different. Don't compare your readings to theirs. You may look at the devil and think it is not a great card. I may look at it in a more positive note. You might connect to the Hierophant, for me this is a card that catches me off guard always.

Find a way that suits your style. A ritual that you connect to.

Hope you have the best moments with your very own set of Tarot. This journey is going to life changing.

xoxo
